Harper's Magazine App Reviews

Delete downloaded issues?

I love the magazine and enjoy the new app. There should be a way to delete or undownload--so to speak--a downloaded magazine. This would be helpful in saving space on my device.

Great Magazine

Cant delete previous downloads. Have to uninstall and then reinstall app to remove content from my device. Purchasing content through the web was better. Time to retool-!!

Horrible

I subscribe, and would really prefer reading on the iPad, but no. The app doesnt recognize my address, and I always remove the label that I assume has my account number because it blocks type on the cover. Now the app hangs as soon as I open it, and it get to admire a blank page. They cant be serious.

BEWARE: Shockingly false advertising

The iTunes Store description promises that if you buy this app, you will get complete access to all the back issues of the online version on the website. THIS IS TOTALLY FALSE. If you go to the website, it requires a password to access back issues. No password come with this app. So I called Harper’s directly, and they told me categorically that the iPad app does NOT give you access to the online version. This is false advertising. We’re being ripped off here ...

Improve The App

Harper’s is by the far the best magazine, but the app is leaves five stars worth of quality rating to be desired (I gave it one star because I had to). I’ve been a Harper’s subscriber for years, and I was stoked when this app was first released as an iOS app so I could have any issue I wanted with me at all times. But it is nothing more than a very basic high school programming project level reader. That’s it. No control over the display, readability, nor issues that have been read and could be deleted but cannot because whoever wrote this app thinks it needs to consume many hundreds and then thousands of megabytes in perpetuity (or until the app is uninstalled, installed again, and I log in). It has been this way since the app was first released, and the poor quality of the app for all of the reasons I and many others have listed have been ignored by Harper’s since its initial release.

Worst app

Your magazine is an interesting one but the app is worst. It gives you nightmares. Pls fix it.

Love the content

I love the content of the app but I hate that their isnt an archive function ! I need all the space I can get on my phone !!!

Useless

None of the functions of this app work as intended. Downloading, reading, skipping pages, finding where you left off, etc. Everything you could want to do in this app is either buggy and slow, or not an option. Love the magazine, but they should kill this app and start over.

Worthless

Cannot download new issues - has been saying "the authentication system is not working. Please try again later." for months. Used to work well, but now its unusable.

Junk

This app is junk. Clunky, freezes, you have to navigate through too many screens to get to a back issue. Then it freezes. Disappointing to say the least

Needs a lot of work

Why do I need to log into the app each time I want to use it? Why doesnt it remember me? Every other publication (I have many subscriptions) has figured this out.

sluggish and hard to navigate

Love Harpers, but not a fan of this app. The hard to navigate aspect may be a result of the sluggishness. I dont know where to touch and its so slow that when something happens Im not entirely sure how I made it work. It also constantly asks me if Im a subscriber. Yes. Ive paid my money. Why does this need to be constantly verified?

Slow and sluggish

This app is not difficult and has been done many times, correctly, by others. Hire a consultant and fix it. Please.

Great and awful

The magazine is great, but the app is awful. Ive been a subscriber since 1984 and the content is amazing. Unfortunately, the app is cumbersome. 5 stars for content and 1 star for navigation = 3 stars overall.

Great magazine, truly horrendous app

Percent of current Harpers issues available via the app: 100. Percent of Harpers issues Ive been able to read through app: 0 Number of pages in the last issue of Harpers: I dont know, I cant get the app to load Time spent, in minutes, trying to get the app to load, an issue to download, log in, browse to back issues, or read an issue: 120 Harpers, youve got a bit of egg on your face. Its smeared all over the place and theres some yolk on your forehead, too. Please kill this embarrassing app. License tech from Conde Naste. They had some growing pains but their various apps are now quite useable. This, dear friends, is not, at all.

Content great app horrible

Its very surprising that this app is so clunky. It freezes. Requests sign-in every time I open it. Pages disappear mid-read. Response is so slow and navigation so confusing that its nearly impossible to actually enjoy the content. Im canceling my subscription. They should trash this app and start over. Many others have figured it out so it shouldnt take that much effort. I hope they do, and then I will re-subscribe.

Finally! A much needed update.

Love the app on the iPad, but I was waiting for an update that optimized the app for iPhone 6 Plus. The text was way too big before. Now you can control the font size (I prefer smaller text), which makes for a much more pleasant reading experience. Also, Im happy you can now remove issues youve read so you can free up space.

Excellent

Great update--fixes a lot of the small flaws from 1.0.

Didnt sync with print subscription

Update lost my login info. Had to uninstall then reinstall.

harpers

Can only get white screen on iPad. Works fine on iPhone. Worked before update.
